Just Add Mud (JAM for short) is a new business, formed with the intention to create high quality products to support outdoor learning at home or in schools / early years settings. We want to encourage children to form an early connection with the great outdoors by spending time playing, experimenting and creating a mess!
JAM is run by 3 cousins Andrew, Dan and Pete, who bring a combination of design, carpentry and web development skills. They are assisted by their mothers Katherine and Clare who together have over 60 years worth of early years teaching experience and who advise on the educational aspect of the products and their suitability for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The final team members are 3 enthusiastic pugs (Ralph, Gwen and Mini) currently working as unpaid interns ㋡.
The Idea: A High Quality Mud Kitchen For the Masses
The idea behind Just Add Mud was first conceived in 2016, when Pete decided to buy a mud kitchen for his nephew Ioan’s 3rd birthday. After a lot of research he found that most mud kitchens for sale were either budget, low quality versions cobbled together from pallets, or very expensive outdoor furniture from educational catalogues. Unable to find anything suitable in a reasonable budget he decided to build his own mud kitchen, from the same high quality pressure treated wood as the catalogues used but for a fraction of the price.
From this prototype the ‘Mud Kitchen with Hob’ was born. Many more products are currently in development which will be available for sale very soon. These include a mobile mud kitchen with water pump and a small world play table.
We operate JAM under three guiding principles. All of our products must:
- be well made using quality materials
- support the learning from play philosophy
- be reasonably priced
